Reeling & Writhing is a Glasgow based company founded by Katherine Morley and Tim Nunn. We are arts professionals with strong combined experience and a history of working in Scotland and throughout the UK. We are committed to making theatre from the heart that will inspire and excite.

Katherine has worked as a Glasgow-based theatre director and workshop leader since the completion of her research based MA in 1999. She has most recently directed shows for the Tron Theatre, TAG, Grey Coast and Reeling & Writhing.

Tim has previously been a Project Director for the Royal Academy of Arts and founded the theatre producing organisation ‘me&him’ with David Jubb, now Director of BAC in London. He has always had a professional connection to the arts but also worked for ten years as a human rights campaigner including a term as director of the Free Tibet Campaign.

Our first project together was to co-direct '1000 Airplanes on the Roof' by Philip Glass for the Paragon Ensemble at The Tron, Glasgow in April 2003.

In January 2004 we produced 'White Lament'– the performance production for the National Holocaust Memorial Day commissioned by the Scottish Executive. We worked with a young cast from East Renfrewshire to create the show in workshop, ultimately written by Tim and directed by Katherine.

After the success of 'White Lament' we were commissioned by the Scottish Executive to write a 160p cross-curricular teacher’s pack: 'The Arts and The Holocaust - lessons from the past for citizens of today' that was distributed to every secondary school in Scotland.

In between these two big education projects we co-produced a new mainstream play called 'Standing Wave' by Nicola McCartney with the Tron Theatre, Glasgow. It told the tragic story of Delia Derbyshire, a talented electro-acoustic composer who worked at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop in the 1960’s and was best known for the electronic arrangement of the Dr. Who theme tune. Our three week run of ‘Standing Wave’ in October 2004 received four star reviews from the Herald, the Guardian, the Times, the Express, the Sunday Herald and the Metro, a five star review from the Scotsman and three nominations for Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland.

In 2005 we were commissioned by West Lothian council to create 'The Good Things', a drugs awareness play for P7 pupils with supporting teacher training. We were also Artistic Directors for 'African Journey' at Glasgow Concert Hall for East Renfrewshire Council, a spectacular show with large choir, dance and drama.

In Spring 2006 we successfully toured the SAC supported show 'Good Reason' to small venues and studios throughout Scotland. This new dealt with the relationship between a mother and daughter as they face the reality of the infidelity of both their husbands.

In Autumn 2006 we toured to larger venues in Scotland with the mainstream and education play 'My Dark Sky' by Tim Nunn. This Scottish Executive funded play tells the story of a group of German young people who resisted Hitler’s rule in the early 1940s. This small group, known as 'The White Rose', acted to their consciences and were tragically executed for their bravery. 'My Dark Sky' played to sell-out audiences and to a large number of schoolchildren on a ten week tour. Schools shows were followed by cross-curricular workshops for citizenship delivered by a skilled education team.

In Winter 2006 and Spring 2007 we worked with community groups in Livingston culminating in a successful exhibition and a combined storytelling show by performers with an average age of 70+, 'A Little Thing Called…'.

April 2007 also saw us in Buenos Aires with the support of the British Council to begin a collaboration with the highly successful Crear vale la Pena dance and drama company.

In Autumn 2007 we made and toured 'Only The Men' by Tim to critical and audience acclaim. This play dealt with the memories for his father of a son who has returned to the family home in Ardnamurchan. We commissioned Eddie McGuire to write new music for the show that was performed live by solo flute.

In 2008 we toured 'Hannah and Harvey' and continuing with a number of education projects including 'Rainforest Reunion' at the Glasgow Concert Hall for East Renfrewshire council.

In 2009 we made 'Funny' for the Edinburgh Fringe which went onto tour in Spring 2010. We also developed 'Snowball' which also toured in Spring 2010 and will return later in the year.

In additions to touring established shows in 2010 we toured 'If I Was A Mouse I Would Hide In Your Hood' which wil return in the Autumn.
